AT&T Announces 3 Android Devices

AT&T plans to sell the Samsung Captivate Glide, which features a full keyboard, along with the DoubleTime and Pantech Pocket on November 20, as the carrier bolsters its catalog before the holidays.

The Glide runs Android 2.3 and features a four-inch Super AMOLED screen, a dual-core Tetra 2 processor, and an 8-megapixel camera capable of 1080p video. The device also sports a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera and features a similar design to the Samsung Galaxy S2, but is a bit thicker because of the physical keyboard.

The DoubleTime runs Android 2.2 and also offers a QWERTY keyboard but comes in a clamshell design with dual-screens. Both displays are 3.2-inch touchscreens and the device features a single core process with a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The third device is the Pocket, which runs Android 2.3 and features a four-inch display and 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting HD video.

The Glide will carry a price point of $150 with a two-year contract, and the DoubleTime and the Pocket will each sell for $50 with a two-year contract.

These three new devices each target a specific audience as it heads into the holiday season. The Glide is a high-end alternative for users who like the functionality of the S2 but want a physical keyboard, Few high-end devices still come with QWERTY keyboard, making the Glide a unique option for the carrier.

Meanwhile, the DoubleTime and Pocket will likely appeal to younger users and those new to smartphones who may be eager to find their first mobile devices in their stockings.

The smartphone market is sure to be filled with stiff competition over the next few months, but these new offerings from AT&T provide the company with a unique devices that may make the company stand out in a highly-competitive season.
